The fox stood poised on beaten track with choice of where to go
Had left behind a deceptive pack now longs for love and care
I watched her from behind the woods fascination grew
The way she walked and moved and stood my mind had been ensnared
Her tail flicked she turned her head our eyes met through the leaves
Nervously I nearly fled but her eyes warmed to me
A fox of grey and fiery red fur bristling in the breeze
She moved close my heart beat sped our lives locked instantly
We'd see each other more and more while hunting by the reeds
We'd play together pounce and paw and curl up side by side
Sleep warm together on the floor our love a fierce need
Our bond becoming strong and sure attached from deep inside
As time passed on her paths unfurled the fox knew she was tightly curled
In a life with paths she did not explore and deep within she yearned for more
The fox stood poised on beaten track with choice of where to go
Her future there no going back I stand beside and wait and see
No one can tell where she might go or what her future will show
I cling to hope and strive to know some part of that future is me
